Beyond the ordinary
Our Story and Calling
In November 2021, I was navigating one of the most challenging seasons of my life. Despite prayer and fasting, clarity felt distant. I experienced persistent obstacles—every employment opportunity fell through, and I sensed an overwhelming spiritual heaviness. At the same time, my living situation was no longer a safe or healthy environment for raising children.
One day, while entering the rental office where I lived, I encountered a woman in distress. She was crying and pleading for help with her apartment. Management informed her that she would face eviction if it was not cleaned. In that moment, I clearly heard the Lord instruct me, “You clean it.” Confused, I questioned how this act related to my own need for employment or relocation. Again, I heard, “Do it.”
As the woman left, I informed the rental office that I would clean her apartment myself. They cautioned me—describing her as a hoarder, unstable, and mentally unwell. Nevertheless, I felt compelled to proceed.
When I entered her home, I was met with extreme clutter: clothing stacked to the ceiling and trash throughout the space. She asked what I would charge, and I told her I would not take payment, choosing instead to “store my treasure in heaven.”
During the cleaning, her son arrived and verbally demeaned her, calling her names and dismissing her condition. What I discerned, however, was not mental illness, but profound spiritual warfare. She was not “crazy”—she was a woman of faith who was under attack, and God was fully aware of her struggle.
Continue Beyond the ordinary
As I continued cleaning, I sensed a shift in the atmosphere of the home. I began praying, rebuking, and renouncing spiritual influences that did not belong there, speaking peace and restoration in the name of Jesus. The woman began to cry out, saying she felt relief and release, repeatedly expressing gratitude.
During our conversation, she explained that many of the items in her home were gifts from others or purchases from thrift stores. She had unknowingly brought objects into her home that carried spiritual heaviness, which had contributed to her condition. Through cleaning, prayer, and discernment, her space was restored to a place of peace.
After completing the cleaning, I returned home. As I walked away, I heard the Lord say, “Now go do yours.” Still unsure how this connected to my unanswered prayers, I obeyed.
I thoroughly cleaned the downstairs, then moved upstairs to the bathroom, and finally into my bedroom. There, I was prompted to look to my right. My attention was drawn to a television mounted on the wall. Instantly, I remembered that it had been given to me by someone who openly admitted to practicing witchcraft and casting spells. I had suppressed the memory entirely. Realizing the spiritual significance, I immediately removed the television from my home.
That act marked a turning point. Through obedience and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I experienced spiritual freedom. The oppressive cycle that had blocked my progress was broken. Soon after, I reapplied for housing and employment—and this time, doors opened. I was able to move into a new home and secure a job.
